Speed Sort

Is the word in bold a noun, a verb or an adjective? Sort as many as you can before the clock runs out.

What does this practise? (a quick guide for parents)

Naming word classes (noun = thing, verb = doing or being, adjective = describing) is core SATs grammar, and it has to be quick to be useful in a test. A word's class depends on how it is used, so every word is shown in a sentence: "mirror" is a noun in one sentence and a verb in another. Sorting a word in context is the skill the real tests reward.
